This Privacy Policy describes how TipJar LLC ("TipJar," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you visit our website, create an account, or use the TipJar platform, software, or related services (collectively, the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

1. Who We Are

TipJar provides tip-sharing calculation, distribution management, and POS data integration software for restaurants and hospitality businesses. Our marketing site is available at https://yourtipjar.app, and the application is available at https://client.yourtipjar.app.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

Depending on how you interact with TipJar, we may collect:

  • Account and profile details (name, email address, username, password, job title, role)
  • Business and location information (restaurant name, address, location codes, POS system)
  • Contact details submitted through demo requests, support tickets, or email
  • Employee and workforce data that Customer configures or syncs for tip and payroll workflows (for example employee names, POS employee IDs, job codes, tip allocations, and related payroll fields)

2.2 Information From POS and Integrations

When a Customer connects a Point-of-Sale or related system (such as Toast, Winston, Focus, Clover, or Square), TipJar may ingest shift, sales, tip, timekeeping, and employee identifier data needed to calculate tip distributions and generate payroll-ready reports. TipJar processes this data on behalf of the Customer as part of providing the Services.

2.3 Payment Information

Subscription billing is handled by Stripe, Inc. TipJar does not store raw credit card numbers or banking credentials. Payment data is collected and processed by Stripe under Stripe's privacy practices: https://stripe.com/privacy.

2.4 Automatically Collected Information

When you visit our website or use the Services, we may automatically collect technical and usage information such as IP address, browser type, device characteristics, operating system, referring URLs, pages viewed, and timestamps. This information helps us operate, secure, and improve the Services.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services
  • Authenticate users and manage accounts, roles, and permissions
  • Calculate tip distributions, generate reports, and support payroll workflows configured by Customer
  • Process subscriptions and communicate about billing via Stripe
  • Respond to support requests, demos, and operational communications
  • Monitor security, prevent fraud or abuse, and troubleshoot issues
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

4. How We Share Information

We may share information in these situations:

  • Service providers. Vendors that help us host, store, analyze, send communications, process payments (Stripe), or provide customer support, under appropriate confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
  • POS and payroll integrations. As directed by Customer, data may be exchanged with connected POS, timekeeping, or payroll systems to deliver the Services.
  • Customer administrators. Location and account administrators may access workforce and tip data associated with their TipJar account.
  • Legal and safety. When required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of TipJar, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to applicable confidentiality protections.

We do not sell personal information.

5. Roles and Customer Responsibility

For restaurant Customers using TipJar for tip and payroll workflows, TipJar generally acts as a service provider / processor of Customer-submitted and POS-synced workforce data. The Customer remains responsible for providing required notices to its employees, obtaining any needed consents, and using TipJar in compliance with applicable employment, tip-pooling, and privacy laws.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We may use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure site performance, and understand how the Services are used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect certain features.

7. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Services, fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention periods may vary based on account status, legal requirements, and the nature of the data. TipJar may also apply reasonable limits on historical POS and payroll data storage as described in our Terms of Service.

8. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Customers and users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their account credentials.

9. Children's Privacy

The Services are intended for business use and are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact [email protected] and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of certain personal information, or to opt out of certain processing. To exercise these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond in accordance with applicable law.

If you are an employee of a TipJar Customer and your information was provided through that Customer's account or POS integration, please contact your employer first. We may need to coordinate requests with the Customer that controls the account.

U.S. state privacy laws (including, where applicable, laws in California and other states) may provide additional rights such as knowing what personal information is collected, requesting deletion, and correcting inaccurate information. TipJar does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

11. International Users

TipJar is operated from the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, you understand that information may be processed in the U.S. and other locations where we or our service providers operate.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Material changes will be posted on this page, and continued use of the Services after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy where permitted by law.
